"Those Su-umma Nights…"

Sandra-Dee in the 1978 musical film, Grease, had every reason to reminisce about “those summer nights” she spent with suave Danny (John Travolta) before starting another year at high school. Now, you have a place to create summer night memories on Sunday nights before you head back to a work (or school) week, and, in fact, singing wouldn’t be so out of place.  Every Sunday from May 31- August 23 at 7:30 PM, the Hartman Foundation holds Austin Symphony Concerts in the Park in front of the Long Center for Performing Arts downtown. This is a great time and place to bring blankets, fresh picnic food and drinks, and meet up with friends, while enjoying the summer night weather and watch the Austin skyline as the sun goes down! A group of us went last night, and even ended up just chatting on our picnic blankets until about 10:00 PM, even though the concert ended at about 8:30 PM!  Check out the chocolate-covered cherries I contributed to our picnic at the bottom of this post! I also brought my new favorite light summer beer (I’m usually not a beer drinker, but my free sample at Central Market last week sold me), Saint Arnold Summer Pils.  It’s made in Houston, so I’ll consider it local!

You'll be singing "Those Summer Nights" after relaxing to the music of the Austin Symphony in the park on Sunday evenings!
