Denver Room-Everyone-Hangs-Out-In: One Room Challenge Week 2

Hello! It’s week 2 of the Fall 2018 One Room Challenge and boy, have we made progress since last week when we didn’t have our furniture yet from the movers and our definition of design was a place setting – ha! Once I hid boxes out of the camera (and human) view, I could focus on decor! I’ve researched console design to learn about balance, variance in height, and a put-together feel. In practice, I’ve learned it’s about trial and error! I’ve moved things around over the past few days and we may just rotate decor with functional pieces we’re using for company, or in a new season.

I’m excited that we brought our grey sideboard/buffet dining storage furniture piece from Wrightwood Furniture in Chicago. Not only is it functional and modern, their customer service is beyond! When we noticed there was a crack in one of the interior shelves after buying it 3 years prior, I called them up and they picked up, repaired, and re-delivered it for a small delivery fee before we moved!

When getting creative with limited cabinet space, I thought adding our wooden cutting board to the top surface would add the essence of life (trees), contrasting color, and a platform for a few colorful cookbooks, salt and pepper shakers, and our anniversary wine bottle (that won’t last long!). Also displayed, a cake stand that just gets me (thanks to my dear friend Aviva for the gift!). I like that it’s just waiting to be filled with tasty treats and sweet memories.

Here’s a full view of the piece.

Below is the room-that-everyone-hangs-out-in from the front door. A very long room, it includes the kitchen, dining room, and living room. Boxes peaking through – as my Grandma says, “Rome wasn’t built in a day” (or unpacking…) On the table is one of my favorite platters from my older, wiser sister, Julie!

One of the first purchases we made when we arrived in Denver were these two kitchen counter stools from Pottery Barn. The grey color was perfect for the countertops and sideboard, and well, we had no seating while our furniture moved across the country. So far, we’re loving them – cozy, comfortable, and they easily nest under the countertop to save space.

So excited for cooking and dining at home throughout the seasons! Wall artwork on the way too. Stay tuned for Post #3 of One Room Challenge next week!
